If the option "allow dropping last used sample" is activated in the Settings Menu, General Settings box, the selected sample can be placed anywhere in the grid by pointing with the cursor, which looks like "+" and left-clicking the mouse.

Otherwise you need to drag and drop the file on the grid.

After positioning the sample you can stretch (loop) or drag it. If the grid does not show enough detail enlarge it using the zoom buttons. These are located in the lower right-hand corner of the grid.

Position the cursor on the edge of a sample in order to stretch it. The cursor will change into a double arrow and you can now stretch or reduce the sample as required. However, first you should check the Grid Snap panel, which indicates the minimum size of sample allowed. If the snap value is set to 0 there is no size restriction. Otherwise it will snap to the value set in this pannel.

Drag a frame over the samples you want to select by holding down the right mouse-button .

You can move, delete or copy the selection. There are three ways of deleting a sample: drag the sample out of the grid, click on the sample while holding down the Delete button on your keyboard or frame the sample and press CTRL+X.

To copy a sample, keep the ALT key pressed down while you drag the copy to a new position.

Select one or more samples by left-clicking on them while depressing the SHIFT key.

Deselect one or more samples by left-clicking on them while depressing the SHIFT key.

Deselect all samples by left-clicking on a sample that was not selected.

It is possible to place several samples on top of each other in a track. They will be treated as if they were on separate tracks. However, we do not recommend that you do this. The program has an unlimited number of tracks available and by ensuring that samples are not hidden behind each other this will avoid the occurrence of unforeseen sounds or forgotten samples in a song. If you decide to put samples on top of each other always remember where you did this.

If you right-click on a sample in the grid the sample Properties window will be displayed.

In this you can change the name, FLStudio/end, volume and panning of the sample. You can also muffle the sound by activating the "muted" option.

Alter the panning, volume, resonance and cut-off by holding down the left mouse-button on the appropriate control and moving the mouse up or down. It is also possible to adjust the position or length (of samples) more precisely by entering a number. You can change the resonance and the cut-off using special filters. The cut-off filter flattens the sound; the more cut-off the less you will hear. With this filter you can produce fade-outs. The resonance filter emphasises the section just before the cut-off point, making the sample sound more vibrant. This is something you can experiment with. By deactivating the "link" option you can adjust the start and end of a sample separately.

The "don't start" option causes the sample to be played right from the beginning of the song when selected, i.e. not from the beginning of the sample block in the grid. This is only useful with samples that sound good when looped.

Take care

When you change the name of a sample you only change the name on the grid. Te underlying WAV file does not change its name.
